Have you taught what your hobby is right now over and over again to anyone who would listen? Have you ever thought about taking all of that experience and knowledge and put it into a book for all people who are interested to glean from and enjoy? Some people might even be willing to part with a couple of federal reserve notes for some of that knowledge. Turning your hobby into a business is one of the lowest cost adventures you can get into today if you use todays tools.
Does everyone in your circle call you for advice? Do you know all the stitches and can name them by sight? Do you have 5-50 years worth of garments, pillow covers and crocheted doilies, so many your husbands had to build another house just for your stuff? Can you carve a candle and make it look like a piece of art?
With the help of the Internet, automated publishing tools and email, all individuals have the ability to publish and present themselves in a most professional and intelligent manner. The use of search engines creates enough traffic volume to make a remarkable niche market to cater to.
Would you like to make your circle of friends that writes you for advice be larger than you could have ever dreamed of?
Answer:
Write a monthly e-zine that draws hundreds to your knowledge. They aren't hard and can be done in a couple of hours a month, pick a topic and run with it. Send it out to your e-mail list group.
Right now, someone on the Internet is doing just that, selling his or her e-book to some just starting out mom or teenage embroiderer. Helping them become better and being rewarded for his or her sharing of knowledge. This is what the Internet is all about, the individual being able to spread their knowledge and create wealth in the process.
Are you that person? If not, please go your way in peace. If you could imagine sharing yourself in this way, you can start doing it today. All it takes is your motivation. You see, without these three things, well really four things; you cannot even begin to finish.
Look at what is going on here; you have knowledge, tools and motivation all working in concert to create a business out of your hobby. These ingredients together with perserverance create the right recipe for success.
The next step is to make a journal. If you already have a journal, good for you, you are organized and that is important. If you don't, by all means get a good one that is sturdy and will give you at least a years worth of writing space. Of course you can always use the computer just remember to back up anything you have written. I would suggest you start fresh with a new journal, that way you keep it all separate. Use your journal as a way to keep your thoughts together in one place and when things come to mind, you can jot them down and have them handy when it comes time to make another web page. Remember, this is an "over time" thing, it will not happen overnight, you must be prepared to put your time and effort into it in order for it to produce the correct results.
You are not making a quick buck - fly by night outfit, no you are sharing your experience and knowledge and that takes time, energy and effort, you have a reputation to protect and a clientele that respects your input and contribution, they may even look to you to be the authority in a particular area.
Realize this as well; if you don't work at your business, you have no business. You must be committed. If you have too many other things in the fire, maybe you should re-think if what you are going to be committed to doing is what you want to do. Nah, put as much time and energy as you can and see it to fruition. Slow and steady wins the race. There are no quick get-rich schemes that work, at least not that I have found in my years on this planet.
What I have found unique about the Internet though is the marketing of goods and services isn't what it is in the real world. Look at it this way, in the real world, people drive in their cars up and down the blvd looking at shops and stores and eateries, all of it laid out in front of them as they pass by.
Now look at the Internet. It just stares back at you and states: Where do you want to go today? It is completely up to your mind and your quandary as to where you want the Internet experience to take you. This journey is always extremely focused. Everything is focused to the events you type into that search engine. The people, who have the top 10-20 positions on the listings when you type in that "key phrase" of what you are looking for, get around 95% of the clicks.
In other words when it comes to search engines, the top 20 get the action you want to be part of when you are in business.
All of the tools are out there at the various search engine sites. It is not magic nor is it underhanded if you have content that matches that most sought after phrase. This is the way Marketing is handled on the Internet. This way you can be niche oriented and be successful and get the traffic you need to grow your business.

OK. I am going to make some assumptions here, I am going to assume you have an Internet provider and you can make a web page and house that web page on a server.
If you can't make web pages, go to your favorite bookstore and get a book on writing HTML or you can go here for "free" and get a college primer. Really HTML is easy and fun to play around with and the basics can be mastered in a few days worth of practice.
In case you haven't noticed, I am a fan of "free".
If you don't know about housing the web page on a server, books abound - well really you don't need a book. If you don't know anything about web creation or housing your wealth of knowledge in it, there is still hope. It isn't rocket science and there are many ways these days to put your files up through the Internet. One particularly excellent provider of housing small business web sites is Site Build it. A mostly automatic form of web host, the hard techno stuff is taken care of for you, but it costs money, and I only spend money when I have to. The Doctor who owns and manages this web hosting/book selling/provider is on to something unique. I read all of his "free" books and I have to confess, they are very good. If you are smart, you can gain enough knowledge from them to create the web site he describes and can benefit from his well written books.
Here is a link to all of his "free" books!
Your Internet service provider should have a procedure for adding your own personal web page to their server. Free web hosting through Yahoo or Geocities and others can work, although I hear the spiders and bots don't care much for free web hosting sites. This is a very important point; you want to invite spiders and bots to your site for "free" advertising of your site when it is up and running.
Build your site. Give sound advice. Share your experiences.
Offer your site up to the spiders and bots.
Attract traffic. Add to your site constantly - offer more and more content pages.
Offer your site up to the spiders and bots again when you add to your site.
Advertise your goods - not prices. Start a monthly newsletter and invite all who come by to join. Add to your site again. Sprinkle in some advertising you would recommend.
Offer your site up to the spiders and bots again. Answer your emails promptly and watch your hobby turned business grow.
